Dive Right In
Anyone and everyone jumped or dove at Saint Peter’s Pool, a famous swimming hole in Malta's spectacularly clear Mediterranean Sea. People came from across the country and from all points on the globe to visit a place consistently rated one of the top places to see in Malta. I lived in the small town. where this wonder was located and often went there to jump and swim and witness the athletes who showed up to dive. When these guys, two swans incarnate, stood at the cliff’s end, anticipation heightened. The crowd began to quiet and focus on the duo. Any tourist thinking of jumping in, nose plugged, squealing the whole way down the 40 feet drop into the water, halted. Everyone watched the two synchronized divers flip and spiral and nail their final entries. Their flash of beauty was brief, but the best I’d seen so far. Their bodies showed the human aspiration for connection. Look at their strong grace, each acutely attuned to the other; the momentum seemed to hold them together in ways that felt stunning and impossible.
